In the May/June 1994 issue of the “PLIM REPORT,” we covered the fourth trumpet of Revelations. As we have repeatedly emphasized to the students of scripture and divine metaphysics, the seven trumpets do not only represent future events in time, but symbolize Yahweh’s words being uttered repeatedly down through the ages and dispensations (Ezk. 21:27). This article will explain the 5th of seven trumpets.

Fifth Trumpet Rev 9:1-11

And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. 7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. 10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

What is the traditional interpretation of the 5th Trumpet?

The fifth trumpet has traditionally been interpreted by many Christian Bible commentaries, such as Henry Halley (Bible Handbook, 21st Edition, p. 636), as the Moslems or Moham-madanism coming to power in the world. The spread of Islam that replaced Christianity in the East has been interpreted as the smoke that darkened the sun. Also since Arabia, the land where Mohammadanism orginated, is known to be the habitation of locust, the reference to locust in the ninth chapter of Revelation was thought to refer to Mohammadan armies.

Although this is generally accepted, there is no scriptural proof for this interpretation in the Law and Prophets (Isa. 8:20). To examine the fifth trumpet and arrive at the correct interpretation of it, we must allow the Spirit to reveal the divine interpretation of the Apostle John's vision.

Who is the star  that fell from heaven to earth?

The star that the Apostle John saw 'fall from heaven unto the earth’ was Lucifer. John confirmed this later in his panoramic vision, for he wrote: "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him (Rev. 12:9)." Many prophets such as Isaiah (Isa. 14:12-15) and Ezekiel (Ezk. 28:14-18) wrote about Lucifer's fall and expulsion from heaven or the angelic creation which was created before the physical creation.

The Messiah said to his disciples: “... I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven (Lk. 10:18; see 2 Pet. 2:4). Lucifer's fall and expulsion from heaven to earth is reflective of a change in his state of consciousness for the worse, from a spiritually minded state to a carnal state (Rom. 8:6). He became chained to darkness or ignorance throughout the ages (2 Pet. 2:4). Adam's and Eve's expulsion from paradise, the garden of Eden (Gn. 3:23-24), is a reflect of this fall. Dr. Henry C. Kinley writes:, "The fall of Adam, the earthly father of all living and his explusion from the garden of Eden was a figure of the invisible angelic spirit creature, Lucifer (Satan) and his host which KEPT NOT THEIR FIRST ESTATE and were cast out of heaven (II Peter 2:4; Jude 6) by Michael and his host ... (Elohim the Archetypal Pattern of the Universe, Vol. 4, p. 15)."

Is 'Lucifer's fall' reflected on the earth?

It must also be understood by students of divine metaphysics that as it was in heaven or in the spiritual realm, so it is on earth (Rom. 1:19-20; Matt. 6:10). This means that as Lucifer was cast down in the angelic realm, his kingdoms are constantly being cast down in the earth. For example, Media and Persia overthrew Babylon. King Alexander the Great of Greece overthrew Media and Persia. The Roman Empire overthrew the Greek empire. At the time of the Messiah the Roman Empire under the Caesar’s ruled the world. Then Pagan Rome fell and Papal Rome ruled (See Dan. 7th Chapter). Remember, Pharoah and his host were cast down in the Red Sea.

In reality, the kingdoms of Satan are composed of negative principles, such as lies, pride, envy, and all the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19), which cannot stand. These are always cast down by the truth (Jn. 8:32).

The Messiah’s kingdom is spiritual and can’t be observed, for it is within a man (Lk. 17:20). It is composed of the principles of truth, peace, joy, righteousness (Rom. 14:17), or the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22). It is this Spiritual Kingdom that will overthrow these physical kingdoms of men. Now that we have proven that the fallen star was Lucifer, let us now turn our attention toward the meaning of the ‘bottomless pit’.

What is the 'bottomless pit' and who rules it?

Christianity has many interpretations of the 'bottomless pit', but without a pattern there is no way of proving their various assertions according to the scriptures. Let us examine a few of these interpretations. The New Unger Bible Dictionary by Merrill F. Unger (Moody Press) interprets the bottomless pit as follows. "The prisionhouse of the demons. In the end of the age myriads of these imprisoned evil spirits will be set free to indwell, torment, and energize men (Rev. 9:1-21) to engage in a gigantic attempt to oppose Christ and God's kingdom plans for the Jew in the millennial age to come (Rv. 16:13-16)."

This view is also confirmed in the classic book on Revelation ( 1919 Rev. Clarence Larkin Estate) by Rev. Clarence Larkin. He states: "The "BOTTOMLESS PIT" is not Hell, or Hades, the place of the abode of the 'Spirits' of wicked men and women until the resurrection of the 'Wicked Dead.'... it is the place of the confinement of the DEMONS, who are not Satan's Angels but a class of 'disembodied spirits', supposed by many to be the 'disembodied spirits' of the inhabitants of the Pre-Adamite Earth, who, as they have liberty and opportunity, as in the days of Christ, try to re-embody themselves again in human bodies ... (p. 74)." Both Mr. Larkin's and Unger's concepts of the 'bottomless pit' and hell are gross misinterpretations of the scriptures.

In reality, the 'bottomless pit', hell, and Hades describe a state of consciousness bound to carnality and darkness which is death and has its physical reflect (Rom. 8:6).

What two great errors do Christians make about hell?

There are two great errors that Christianity makes in their definitions of the "bottomless pit'' and hell. First, they don't realize that Adam and Eve were given universal dominion of the earth at their inception and this inheritance or dominion was lost when they transgressed the law of Yahweh (Gn. 1:26). Lucifer began to rule over men's souls until the coming of the Messiah (Heb. 2:14-16).

After man lost dominion of the earth, did Yahweh forsake him?

Elohim gave the woman and serpent a prophecy in the garden concerning His next appearance in the flesh to overthrow Satan and restore the kingdom. "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel (Gn. 3:15; 1 Tim. 2:13-15)." John confirmed this when he saw the Dragon cast into the earth persecute the woman that was about to give birth to the manchild, Yahshua. He wrote: "And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child (Rev. 12:13)."

What changed after Pentecost?

Second, most Christians make no distinction between the time before the birth or coming of the Messiah and after his death, burial, resurrection, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (see illustration on p. 32). Prior to the Messiah's death, all souls of men had to wait in the graves or prison (Isa. 60:1-2; or the 'bottomless pit') until the Messiah resurrected (Jn. 11:25). Then they arose after Him (Matt. 27:51-53).

What must be understood is that the Messiah came at the end of the Post Diluvian Age (after the flood) and it was His death that brought this age, including the Law of Moses, to an end (Rom. 10:1-4). In other words, men became new creatures in the Messiah (2 Cor. 5:17-18).

So since Pentecost the souls of men are being resurrected now while they are yet in physical bodies. In other words, no one has to physically die before they are resurrected. This means that no son of Elohim is in the grave, hell, or the 'bottomless pit' in this Present Age of Grace which began with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost (see "What Happens To A Man After He Dies? Part Two," p. `16 in the "Philosophical Measuring Rod" article of the September/October 1993 issue of the "PLIM REPORT"). The kingdom was restored by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and we are still being transformed while we are yet in the flesh. Paul said: "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Col. 1:13)." Now the word 'hath' is present tense, meaning all true believers are translated into the kingdom NOW which has been going on for 2000 years.

Are there natural types of hell?

Using Egypt, Israel and Pharaoh, as natural examples, one can get a better understanding of the 'bottomless pit'. It is represented allegorically by the grave, hell, or Egypt in the Bible. The ‘bottomless pit’ is where all souls of men had to reside under the rulership of the fallen angels until the coming of the Messiah, just as the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians until the coming of Moses. In reality, the 'bottomless pit' is the abode of dead spirits, which is a dead state of consciousness (Rom. 8:6; 12:2).

Where is hell geographically located?

Dr. Kinley states the following about hell and the grave in his book Elohim the Archetypal Pattern of the Universe. "According to the Divine Pattern which we mentioned earlier in this discourse, hell can be geographically located as the grave, since the Universe itself is a Tabernacle, made after the fashion of the one Moses saw atop Mount Sinai and later built in the Wilderness of Sinai; which the Tabernacle is a transfiguration of Yahweh-Elohim Himself, who is a Flaming Fire (2 Thess. 1:8). Since nothing at no time is outside of Yahweh, for it is in Him that we live, move and have our being (Acts 17:28), then hell can be geographically located using the physical Pattern which reflects Yahweh, the Archetype Spiritual Pattern. When one compares the Tabernacle with its Outer Court, Holy Place and Most Holy Place with the Migratory Pattern of Egypt, Wilderness of Sinai and Canaan Land, symbolizing the Universe itself, one can readily see that the Outer Court and Egypt are the same and symbolize death and burial (see Plates 24 and 25, Volume I, page 129). We have already explained that Yahshua was symbolically or spiritually crucified in Egypt (Rev. 11:8) and buried in Joseph’s new tomb, also spiritually in Egypt. This makes then, the Outer Court (or Egypt) HELL (or the grave) and the repose of dead souls (Matt. 27:52-53; Heb 13:11-13, see Plate 31, Page 9). ..."

Is purgatory hell?

"... Since we have geographically located Hell according to our physical Pattern, the Tabernacle, let us debunk the Roman Catholic’s contention that Purgatory is a place between Heaven and Hell ... According to Yahweh’s Pattern the Holy Place is situated between Heaven (Most Holy Place) and Hell (Outer Court). Matthew wrote, When ye therefore see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet stand in the Holy Place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)” Matt. 24:15). Since the Holy Place is situated between Heaven and Hell and Yahshua said for the saints to stand there, then Purgatory is definitely and positively not located there! ..."

What is the true hell?

"... The above mentioned manifestations of hell are only child’s play compared to the real hell divinely discerned and revealed by the Holy Spirit ... the real hell comes when after the conconsummation of the flesh, those souls who have sinned and transgressed Yahweh’s Commandments will stand in the presence of Yahweh who is a consuming fire and discern the glory and radiance of Yahweh and His saints who are clothed on with a new and glorious body, and compare their naked selves with them. Then shall there be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, and cursings. That is the TRUE HELL."

"As Paul states, 'For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Rom. 8:18).' consequently when the unclothed souls and sinful spirits see all of this glory and recognize that they have no further chance to attain unto the same and are in reality banished from Yahweh and all His glory (for a type compare the old weather-beaten Tabernacle in the Wilderness with the splendor and magnificence of Solomon’s Temple) FOREVER, that IS punishment indeed and that IS the Lake of Fire and Brimstone indeed (Vol. 4, p. 115-116)."

Does the destroyer rule hell?

The king of the bottomless pit is Lucifer, who is called 'Abaddon' in the Hebrew tongue which means destruction. In Greek he is called Apollyon which means 'destroyer'. Lucifer was called the 'destroyer' because this fallen angel destroyed men's souls by teaching them lies. Pharaoh and his host typify Lucifer and his host, the fallen angels. The Messiah also called the Scribes, Pharisees, and teachers of Israel devils. "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (Jn. 8:44)."

Who has the key to the 'bottomless pit'?

It is the Messiah, not Lucifer, who has the key to the 'bottomless pit'. Many read the scriptures literally and think the star that fell from heaven had the key. However, once you understand by correlation how Israel escaped Egypt and how the souls of men who died believing in the Messiah escaped from hell, we see it was not by Lucifer, but by the Messiah.

Remember, it was the blood of the lamb, the key, that enabled Michael and his host to overcome Lucifer and his host (Rev. 12:10) in the angelic creation. It was the same blood of the lamb that released those souls from the graves who died believing in the Messiah (Isa. 60:1), and that delivered Israel from Egypt (Exo. 12th Chapter).

Yahweh Elohim told John in the beginning of this vision: “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Hallelujah; and have the keys of hell and of death (Rev. 1:18).” He also told Peter while in His ministry "... I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Mt.16:19)."

How was Satan bound in the 'bottomless pit'?

Now Lucifer was bound to the ‘bottomless pit’ when Judas Iscariot, a disciple of the Messiah, hung himself (Mt. 27:1-10). Yahweh allowed Lucifer to enter the body of Judas at the last Supper. The Apostle John wrote: “And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot; Simon’s son, to betray him; ... (Jn. 13:2).”

During the day of the resurrection Lucifer was bound to the grave or became Yahshua's footstool. Everyone knows that when the sun rises in the sky, it abolishes darkness. Likewise, when the Messiah arose from the grave, Lucifer being darkness was bound. This can also be proven in the scriptures by the following examples:

• When the children of Israel, the sons of Yahweh (Ex. 4:21), resurrected out of Egypt through the divided waters of the Red Sea, Pharaoh and his armies were cast down and bound in the Red Sea by Moses lowering his rod (Ex. 14:26-27).

• Noah and his family resurrected into the next age, but those deceived souls of men were drowned in the flood. Those wicked spirits were bound for they couldn’t break into the ark and be saved.

• When Joshua led the Israelites into battle against five Gentile kings in Canaan land, these five kings fled from the presence of Joshua the Son of Nun. The sun stood still for a day while the Israelites got vengeance on their enemies (Jos. 10:12-14). Joshua threw the five kings in a cave and put a stone over its mouth binding them (Jos. 10:15-17).

When was Satan loosed?

After the Messiah's resurrection these evil spirits were loosed from the bottomless pit to deceive men. During the day of the Messiah's resurrection, all that resurrected with Him appeared to many in visions (Joel 2:6-10; Matt. 27:51-53).

On that same day the Scribes, Pharisees, and rulers of Israel were in the temple bribing the men who guarded the Messiah's tomb to change their testimony (Matt. 28:11-13). These guards came back and told them that they saw angels roll the stone from Yahshua's tomb (Mt. 28:1-4). After much persuasion by the rulers of Israel, the guards accepted the bribe and agreed to say the Messiah's disciples came by night and stole the body away. Because of their outright deception the Messiah called the rulers of Israel serpents and vipers (Matt. 23:33).

In other words, these priests were full of evil spirits (Mt. 23:1-4; 33). So when they came out of the temple with their lies about the Messiah, Satan was loosed. They deceived many into believing that the Messiah, the Son of Yahweh, didn’t resurrect, just as Lucifer deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3rd Chapter).

Are there other instances when the satanic spirits were loosed?

The satanic spirits were loosed from the 'bottomless pit' in the beginning of this Present Kingdom Age and made war with the Apostles and followers of the Messiah. Likewise, they also attacked Adam and Eve at the beginning of the Ante-Diluvian Age, and Noah and his family after they came out of the Ark, in the beginning the Post-Diluvian Age.

Remember, as the children of Israel came out of Egypt, the invisible disembodied spirits caused them to break the law of Yahweh by building the golden calf (Ex. 32:1-6). These disembodied spirits that were incarnated in the bodies of Pharaoh and his host came out of them after they were drowned in the Red Sea (Ex. 14:27-28). They were then free to vex Israel in the Wilderness. The Messiah being tested in the wilderness for 40 days and nights by Satan, a disembodied demon (Mt. 4:1-4), fulfilled Israel being tested in the Wilderness for 40 years.

How did the 'lie' darken the sun?

The religious leaders of Israel blinded the hearts and minds of many against the Messiah's resurrection -- the one belief necessary for them to receive eternal life. This 'lie' was the allegorical smoke that John said darkened the sun and the air, and caused men to discount the resurrection or the Truth (Jn. 14:1-10).

The Sun represents Yahshua the Messiah (Mal. 4:2; John 8:12) and the air represents the Spirit in men. The locusts and scorpions (Ezk. 2:6) represent lying men devouring men's souls by spreading false reports and stinging them with their tongues (Ex. 10:15). The Apostles James said: “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison (Jam. 3:8)."

Why were the green things spared?

John saw in his vision that the locusts with scorpions like tails were told not to hurt the trees or any green thing. These green things represented the souls of men that had resurrected and were sealed with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13). A blind man healed by the Messiah said he saw men as trees walking (Mark 8:24).

The men that the scorpions couldn’t harm (the green things) were those souls that had resurrected with the Holy Spirit and were typified by Noah and his family in the ark. This ark represents the resurrected body of Yahshua the Messiah.

In Egypt this seal was represented by the blood of the lamb being put on the two side posts and lintels of the door to the Israelite's houses which typifies the crucifixion of Yahshua.

Those men that didn’t have the seal of the Holy Spirit were to be tormented as the death angel killed first born man and beast of the Egyptians because they didn't have the blood of the lamb on their doors (Ex. 12:22).

The Messiah told His disciples that they had power over all these unclean spirits. He said to them at his ascension: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; ... They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mk. 16:17-18)."

What is the '5 month period'?

The ‘5 months’ that the scorpions were supposed to torment man is a complete mystery to many Bible scholars. They don’t understand that this principle repeats itself over and over again. Halley’s Bible Handbook 24th edition by Henry H. Halley’s (Zondervan) attaches this 5 month period to 150 years or the time the Islamic religions began a world conquest before abandoning this idea and deciding to live peacefully with all other nations.

Mr. Halley writes the following. “5 months, the normal stay of locusts, May to September, is about 150 days; which, on the Year-Day in terpretation (Ezekiel 4:6) would be 150 years.

Who was persecuted during these five months?

The five month period was repeated in this Age with the Pharisees, Scribes, and teachers of Israel persecuting the true believers under the New Covenant and lying to those that hadn’t heard the Truth with their false doctrines.

The bulk of the persecution was centered on those who refused to keep the old Law of Moses. In fact, when Paul’s conversion took place on the road to Damascus, he had warrants in his possession from the high priest to imprison all those that refused to obey the Law of Moses (Acts 9:1-5). Before we see how this ‘5 month’ or 3 1/2 year period had an implication on the last 2,000 years since the Messiah's death, we will examine it throughout the scriptures and see how this principle repeats itself.

How long did the flood cover the earth?

The only instance in the scriptures that directly mentions the 150 days or 5 months is the flood. Moses wrote: “And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated (Gn. 8:3).” So we see the earth was covered 150 days with water before it abated or decreased. The earth immersed in water for 150 days symbolized a death and burial state with the only life being within Noah’s ark. Ironically, Noah lived 350 years (350 in principle is 3.5 or 3 1/2) after the flood (Gn. 9:28).

Why did the flood cover the earth for five months?

Now to understand what the Apostle John saw in his vision concerning the 150 days the locusts with scorpion-like tails were allowed to torment men, we must use the principles of the eighth plague of locusts in Egypt and the flood. Yahweh through Moses smote Egypt with the plague of locusts (Exo. 10:14-15). There were so many locusts that they blotted out the sun and they devoured all the green plants that were not destroyed by plague of hail and fire. The locusts eating the green plants of the Egyptians typifies evil spirits devouring the souls of men with their lies. This is what the Apostle John was made to understand.

The waters that covered the earth for 150 days also represented the locusts that tormented men five months. As the waters of the flood drowned the unbelievers and wicked in the Ante-Diluvian Age, likewise the scorpions' lies (men with evil spirits in them) cover the face of the earth killing men souls with their tail (tales/lies) in the Present Kingdom Age. The men’s souls they kill spiritually aren’t sealed with the Holy Spirit (Mk. 16:18).

Was Israel under the Law for 5 months in principle?

The children of Israel were under the Law of Moses for some 1500 years before the coming of the Messiah. This 1500 years is in principle the same as a ‘5 month period' or 150 days for 1500 years = 3 x 500 years. Since ‘0’ has no value in prophetic time and according to Ezekiel the prophet 1 day = 1 year, then 1500 years = 1500 days.

We can now reduce 1500 to 150 or 3 x 50, which is three Pentecosts. In other words, the law pointed out sin which resulted in the death of those that were disobedient. The Apostle Paul stated: “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law (1 Cor. 15:55-56)." So we see the law's sting was death unto the Israelites.

How long did religious persecution last?

The ‘5 month’ period of the scorpions' and the locusts' sting also refer to the time of religious and political persecution the world would undergo beginning with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This period lasted about 1500 years. There was no religious freedom for the masses until the 16th century when the Reformation began and Martin Luther broke off from the Roman Catholic Church. History has proven that the truth was repressed. For example, the common person was forbidden to read and posess a Bible.

The new world, the United States of America which typifies the New Covenant (Jer. 31:31-34), was discovered in 1492 (or approximately 1500 A.D.) and was established for religious freedom. For 1500 years before the Messiah the children of Israel were in bondage to the Law until He brought it to an end and established a New Covenant whereby they could worship him in Spirit and truth. Then Moses Law was reimposed on the people in the age Grace and there was no semblance of freedom until the reformation.

How did John describe the locusts?

Finally, the Apostle John conveyed spiritual attributes by his symbolic description of the locusts. He described them as follows:

"And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; ... (Rev. 9:7-9)."

The locusts having the form of horses, and their wings sounding like chariots are symbolic representations of men under the influence of evil spirits' warlike nature. Daniel confirms this by describing the satanic kingdoms of the world as wild beasts (Dan. 7th Chapter). Remember, Pharaoh persecuted the Israelites and pursued them to the Red Sea with 600 chariots (Ex. 14:5-7). Yahweh told Jermeriah how the Babylonians would attack Jerusalem in a similar way: "They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion (Jer. 6:23)."

The Apostle John describes the locusts as follows:

" ... on their heads were as it were crowns like gold," These crowns represent pride and mastery over men's souls. Yahweh showed Isaiah that Israel manifested this negative state of consciousness. He said: "The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, ... (Isa 28:3 see 28:1)." Also Nahum the prophet described the armies of the great city Nineveh as locusts that would flee in the face of the enemy during their judgement. "Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are (Nahum 3:19)."

"teeth of lions," Now in the scriptures these teeth represent Old Babylon under the control of King Nebuchadnezzar who took Israel into captivity for 70 years. Joel wrote: "For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion (Joel 1:6)." In another scriptural context teeth are used symbolically to represent knives which, in reality, are words or lies that can cut a man's soul. "There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men. (Pro. 30:14)."

"... breastplates of irons" can be correlated with the fourth beast that Daniel saw in his dreams. These beasts represent the four Satanic kingdoms that would rule the world from the time of Daniel to the Messiah (See Dan. 7th Chap.; Rev. 13:1-2). It should be understood that the warlike nature of these satanic kingdoms will also destroy Mystery Babylon, the Great Harlot, in our age (Rev. 17th Chapter).

This concludes the divine interpretation of the 5th trumpet.
