The dumbing down of America regarding their health is truly astounding! Most Americans do not have a context in which to place their individual health and tend to view statistics that report approximately 1.5 - 2.0 million Americans die every year of heart attacks, cancer, strokes, etc., as facts that donít apply to them.

What is remarkable about this health crisis is that neither a famine nor starvation caused it since America is the breadbasket of the world. Nor is the health emergency due to a contagious plague, lack of medication, sanitation, or medical treatments, for we are the most technologically advanced nation on the face of the earth. The chief cause of this health crisis is poor and imbalanced diets.

Dying of an inadequate diet in a land where there is a surplus of food is unheard of in the annals of history! People classically died of plagues, famines, and wars, not of a poor and imbalanced diet.

This spiral downward in Americanís health is even more pronounced because there appears no hope of reversing the trend, in spite of the fact that the U.S. spends $1.4 trillion dollars per year on heath, being the richest and most powerful country on the face of the earth.

America spends more money than any other nation on health. Yet America ranks the lowest of all the major industrial nations of the world in terms of its citizenís life expectancy. According to the most recent World Health Organization report, the United States ranks 24th with a life expectancy of 70.0 years out of 191 nations. Japan ranks number 1 with a life expectancy of 74.5 years. Now the rest of the top 10 nations with high life expectancies follow: 2. Australia, 73.2 years; 3. France, 73.1; 4. Sweden, 73.0; 5. Spain, 72.8; 6. Italy, 72.7; 7. Greece, 72.5; 8. Switzerland, 72.5; 9. Monaco, 72.4; and 10. Andorra, 72.3. [] (See Chart on p. 17)

Who can fix Americaís health problems?

At the beginning of the 20th century the U.S. ranked 1st in health among the major industrial nations. As we will see later, the cause of our health decline is simply the American diet.

All major degenerative diseases are increasing for all ages, including the children, and there is an explosion to occur with the babies born around WWII as they approach retirement age.

For example, the number of people getting cancer has increased from 1 in 33 in 1900 to 1 in 2.5 people today. It is estimated that in about 20 years 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer and half of them will die. According to the American Heart Association (AHA) statistics, there are 53 million Americans with cardiovascular diseases, which includes arteriolosclerosis, high blood pressure, and strokes.

What is startling about the increase in these diseases in America is that those individuals who are aware of the situation think that modern medicine will be able to turn the health crisis around. Many see allopathic medicine as the "silver bullet" or sole protocol necessary for health. However a few glaring issues need to be addressed.

First of all using modern technology to cure degenerative disease is very expensive. Some experts in the field of medicine realize that with all this technology, there has been no decline in the health crisis. Writing in June 1997 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, Drs. John Bailar and Heather Gornick stated the following. "The effect of new treatments for cancer on mortality has been largely disappointing. The most promising approach to the control of cancer is a national commitment to prevention, with a re-balancing of the focus and funding of the research."

Second, Medicare is very near bankruptcy and most war-born babies have not reached retirement age.

Third, the primary cause for a majority of diseases running today rampant is the American diet. The former Surgeon General Dr. C. Everett Koop stated in 1988 in his Surgeon General Report that the American diet was the cause of approximately two-thirds of the deaths due to disease in America. He goes on to say that Americans are not starving from lack of food as people are in many foreign countries, but they are malnourished by simply not eating the proper food. Americans are eating food full of empty calories that make them fat.

Quoting from the Report he states the following. "Food sustains us,Ö Yet what we eat may affect our risk for several of the leading causes of death for Americans, notably, coronary heart disease, stroke, arteriolosclerosis, diabetes, and some types of cancer. These disorders together now account for more than two-thirds of all deaths in the United States. Ö

Ö But for most of us the more likely problem has become one of overeatingótoo many calories for our activity levels and an imbalance in the nutrients consumed along with them. Although much is still uncertain about how dietary patterns protect or injure human health, enough has been learned about the overall health impact of the dietary patterns now prevalent in our society to recommend significant changes in those patterns.

This first Surgeon Generalís Report on Nutrition and Health offers comprehensive documentation of the scientific basis for the recommended dietary changes. ÖThe Reportís main conclusion is that over consumption of certain dietary components is now a major concern for Americans. While many food factors are involved, chief among them is the disproportionate consumption of foods high in fats, often at the expense of foods high in complex carbohydrates and fiber that may be more conducive to health."

What is the purpose of this article?

Due to space limitations, this article will be divided into two parts. Part One will explore the Standard American Diet (SAD) and the havoc it is wreaking on American health. Statistical studies will verify the impact of the American diet on health. Everett Koop Surgeon General points out some of the diseases from this type of diet. His conclusion was that there must be a change in the average American diet.

Part One of this article will also refer to the scriptures that show what kind of diet is beneficial to mankind. Elohim gave the best diet on earth to Adam and Eve in the Garden and modified it slightly with Israel when he gave them the law. Daniel refused to eat the King of Babylonís diet since it consisted of many foods unclean to Israel. The diet he requested was one of living plants and after being on it ten days, his outward appearance reflected the benefits of natural eating (Dn. 1st chp.).

In addition, Part One of this article will show that the whole health crisis, which is primarily the result of improper diet, has great spiritual significance, since all things in the physical are a reflection of spiritual things (Rom. 1:19-20).

As many past PLIM REPORT magazine articles have stated, Mystery Babylon the Great Mother of Harlots has been identified as the commercial system that governs the whole earth (Rev. 17:1-5), just like the city of Tyre did in ancient times. If everyone were healthy in America, the whole healthcare industry would go bankrupt and the commercial giants could not have that. So for the love of money, they keep information from people and sell them junk food products and food with preservatives, such as TV dinners, sodas, etc., that eventually make people sick.

The American orthodox medical establishment created by the AMA refuses to accept the premise that food is medicine. Remember that the rulers of Israel spoke against Yahshua the Messiah when He healed on the Sabbath.

Part Two of this article will address the following questions. Can this crisis turn around? Can a raw food diet prevent various degenerative diseases? What approach does the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine have toward disease prevention? Do cancer free, stroke free, heart attack free cultures exist in the world today? Also Part Two will show that a plant based diet or one very close to a vegetarian or raw food diet is the only solution to correcting the maladies of disease and death that have plagued many Americans. In fact, Elohim gave Adam and Eve a diet that resulted in Adam living 930 years.

Now over 70% of the food produced in America is processed or refined. It no longer contains the nutrients that were there when it was harvested. Any changes in this Standard American Diet (SAD) have great commercial consequences as will be shown later in this article.

What does the Bible say about diet?

Any automobile designer knows the fuel, oil, and lubricants that must be used in order for the car to operate at its most efficient rate. Now no one in his or her right mind would put cheap gasoline and oil in their BMW or Lexus, for they know the consequences. Using this analogy will allow one to see the necessity of the proper fuel that must be put into the physical body.

Now the designer of the human body, which is an awesome machine, is Yahweh-Elohim (Gn. 1:26-27). He created Adamís and Eveís physical bodies and gave them the food to eat to sustain them, according to Mosesí vision as recorded in the book of Genesis. He gave them a plant-based diet that was composed of raw plants. These were the first plants to grow from the soil. They were full of the proper nutrients and did not contain contaminants.

Moses wrote that Elohim said to Adam: "Ö I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat (Gen. 1:29)."

A complete plant-based diet, which was the fuel to sustain the physical body, was the Ďway of lifeí for Adam and Eve. Their diet consisted of fruits, grains, vegetables, etc., which was living, not dead food. Adam did not cook nor did he eat any animal meat. The implications of not maintaining this diet would not be revealed to mankind until the 20th century.

It was in the age after the flood that mankind began to consume great quantities of meat in their diet (Gen. 9:2-3).

Is food medicine?

From the most advanced to the most primitive populations, Elohim has always revealed that food, especially it its raw state, is medicine. Now the Greek philosopher Hippocrates (460-360 B.C.), the father of Medicine, who all doctors are required to follow and from which the AMA formulated the Hippocratic Oath, said: "Let food be thy medicine."

Dr. Bernard Jensen in his book Foods that Heal states the following about Hippocrates. "The real greatness of Hippocrates was not only in turning the healing arts away from magic and superstition to a more scientific approach but in recognizing therapy must be consistent with nature and the design of the body. He knew that effective health care could not be separated from therapy (p. 4)."

The prophets of Israel and the Apostle John confirmed that food is medicine. Elohim, the Creator of all things, revealed to Ezekiel that food is medicine for the physical body. "And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine (Ezek 47:12)"

The Apostle John confirms this Revelation "In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations (Rev 22:2)."

It has only been within the last twenty years that the medical community has recognized that food is medicine and has power to prevent various diseases. Not a week goes by where the media does not tell the public in short press releases to eat more vegetables and fruits. The irony of this situation is that in 1949 the AMA Council of Pharmacy and Chemistry went on record denying that food was medicine. Quoting from the book Racketeering in Medicine by James P. Carter, M.D. Dr. P.H., it states that the AMA Council of Pharmacy and Chemistry "went on record stating that diet could in no way have anything to do with the prevention or treatment of cancer (p. 31)."

They made this statement after the Pepper-Neeley Congressional sub-committee, in 1946, met to examine the proof of Dr. Max Gersonís cure for cancer which consisted of a detoxification protocol consisting of raw vegetable and fruit juices, a vegetarian diet, and caffeine implants in the form of coffee enemas. After this period the patient was put on a low-sodium/high potassium diet. ( Once all this evidence was presented, a Senate bill that could have supported research into nutrition as a prevention and cure for cancer lost by four votes (p. 31).

What did Danielís diet in Babylon reveal?

When King Nebuchadnezzar took Israel into Babylonian captivity, certain princes of Israel including Daniel refused to eat the diet the king had ordered for them. They were to be trained in the sciences of Babylon and had been provided with the same privilege and luxury of the other Babylonian royalty. However, the Kingís Gentile diet contained many unclean foods that Israel was not allowed to eat and violated the Law of Moses. These foods brought about defilement (Dn. 1:8).

Daniel "said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink Dan 1:11-12." Their overseer was afraid of losing his head if Danielís health failed (Dn. 1:10), so Daniel asked him to allow them to try basically a vegetarian diet for ten days.

After ten days Daniel and the others appeared fatter and their countenances fairer than those that were on the Kingís meats and wine (Dn. 1:15-16). Their overseer allowed them to continue on this diet. Daniel at this time was adhering to the Law of Moses and did not want to defile himself with the kingís food.

Looking at this from a modern viewpoint, one can see that the kingís or rich manís food is unhealthy if eaten on a regular basis. This diet was probably high in animal protein, fats, and starches, which plays a major part in the standard American diet. A rich manís diet is not necessarily a healthy diet.

What is the Standard American Diet (SAD)?

Before examining the current Standard American Diet, an examination of the American diet at the beginning of the 20th century will give us some context for our current health crisis. At the beginning of the 1900ís, the American diet was much different than our diet today. If you were to go into a store at that time, you would find that the store contained very little processed food, for the technology did not exist. Basically, the shelves contained produce, living plants, seeds and grains, along with food that was canned and boxed.

People at the beginning of the 20th century grew food in their gardens or farms. Most people lived on the farm during this era. The point being made here is that the diet of this era was composed of more plant-food (fruits and veggies) grown from the rich American soil. There was very little meat with hormones injected into it, processed, fast, or junk food that make up the diet of American today.

Today the Standard American Diet (SAD) has many imbalances. First, it contains an excess of certain foods, such as meat (proteins), fats, and sugar. Second, it has deficiencies of raw plants, such as vegetables, fruits, etc. Third, there is a lack of nutrients in the food, such as enzymes, due to the fact that the food is cooked and/or processed. Fourth, the foods have various additives, toxins, such as preservatives, and hormones that increases production, to list a few, put in them.

Letís examine some of the facts.

Do Americans eat an excess of meat protein?

Americans eat an excessive amount of meat, especially red meat and diary products, which is their primary source of protein. They eat an average of 90-100 grams (25 oz.) of meat daily when they only need 25-50 grams (4 oz.) per day according to the Book of Health by Susan Stockton.

Now excess protein causes a host of problems for the body. Here are a few according to the Book of Health:


Excess protein causes the pancreas to be over stimulated resulting in a decrease in enzyme activity. Enzymes are needed to break down food into its basic parts. Due to a decrease in enzymes, digestion is poor and proteins canít be broken down into amino acids, which are the building blocks of the cells.


Demands from excessive protein use vast amounts of minerals and vitamins in digestion leading to deficiencies of certain nutrients, such as B6, zinc, and magnesium.


The body does not have the enzymes to break down uric acid (urine from the animal) that is in the meat when it is slaughtered. This uric acid builds up in the body and causes gout and arthritis.


The stomach produces less acid the more meat we eat.


Excess meat depletes the calcium in the body. The calcium counters the acid conditions set up by digesting meat.

Studies have shown that a diet high in meat is the primary cause of heart attacks, which is the cause of half the deaths in this country. This diet has also been linked to cancer, diabetes, and obesity. The Book of Health quotes William J. Mayo (founder of Mayo Clinic) "Ö an over consumption of protein has been linked to breast, liver, and bladder cancer and leukemia (p. 97)."

The SAD diet is also high in fats and cholesterol and deficient in fibers, vitamins and minerals. There are no cancer fighting nutrients, such as antioxidants, in meat.

Are there deficiencies in the SAD diet?

Now the deficiency in the American diet is primarily due to eating too much refined and processed food, such as white rice, TV dinners, cereals, white bread, and sugar. In other words, instead of man eating raw plants or food as close to nature as possible, the modern man eats processed food.

Man cannot improve upon what Elohim has made. Elohim created food with all the nutrients that are needed. However, man in all his wisdom decides to tinker with a perfect product. He processes out the nutrients, cooks the food half to death, then wonders why so many people get sick. In the animal kingdom there are no HMOs or health care facilities, for all the medicine is in the food, The animals in the wild instinctively know this and stay healthier than humans.

Now man has bleached, polished, and hulled rice, destroying all the nutrients within it that Elohim created. For example, in the southern states 10,000 people died of pellagra, a chronic disease caused by a deficiency of nicotinic acid in the diet and characterized by gastrointestinal disturbances, skin eruptions, and mental disorders. (See "Raw Foods Are the Keys To Good Health," This was the result of the corn meal being refined and the germ removed. The belief of that period was the germ was unnecessary and caused the corn meal to spoil.

Elohim does not create nutrients within food for cosmetic purposes. Everything in the food is there for maintaining the body.

Here is another example, that brings out this point. Elohim created rice and flour brown in color. During World War II, Denmark noticed that when they stop processing the grain, and let the people eat it naturally, the death rate went down 39% and there was also a decline in cancer, diabetes and kidney disease. There are numerous incidences where men have tampered with the food supply, resulting in an outbreak of some disease. These examples demonstrate that man must eat his food, especially plants, natural or raw to get the most nutrients out of it.

What is the impact of cooked food?

Another factor that brings about a deficiency in the American diet, besides not eating enough veggies and fruits, is cooking food. When plants are heated above approximately 107 degreesF, certain enzymes in food are destroyed. (See "Raw Foods Are the Keys To Good Health," Vitamin C is destroyed if certain food is heated to approximately 130 degreesF. Although pasteurization (145 degreesF) is considered good, it destroys many nutrients within the food. Dr. Edward Howell states in his book Enzyme Nutrition the following. "I attest that the kitchen stove and its big brothers, the heat-treatment machinery in food factories, are responsible for destroying a whole category of food elements, namely the heat-sensitive, exogenous food enzymes. These nutritional supplements have always provided our endogenous (internal) enzymes with the enzymes reinforcements needed to check the disease-making process." So if Americans want to get all the nutrition from the food that Elohim made, it must be eaten raw whenever possible.

On average fresh raw vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes (peas and beans) makeup less than 20% of the American daily diet. In short, the American diet is high in meat, protein, and fats, which are empty calories.

What are the ramifications of the SAD diet?

As was pointed out earlier in this article, the designer of any car specifies the proper fuel and oil to put into the vehicle for it to operate optimally and not have any problems or damage to the car engine. Likewise, the physical body has a designer, Elohim, and He has given mankind a specific diet that enables the physical body to operate optimally and prevents many health problems.

Dr. Koop, M.D. points out in his study that history has shown that a diet deficient in certain nutrients or imbalances causes havoc within the physical body. Quoting from this study, it states the following. "Diet has always had a vital influence on health. Until as recently as the 1940ís, diseases such as rickets, pellagra, scurvy, beriberi, xerophthalmia, and goiter (caused by lack of adequate dietary vitamin D, niacin, vitamin C, thiarnin, vitamin A, and iodine, respectively) were prevalent in this country and throughout the world."

The problem with the vast portion of American people is that the media has dumbed them down and conditioned them into eating foods that are not healthy for the physical body. This is the result of the major corporations and the media influencing the health education and seducing the people through repetitive advertising to eat fast food and junk food.

For example, everyone knows that one teaches by example. Now the public schools throughout the nation teach health in the classroom, but in the lunch room they serve all types of junk food, such as hamburgers, hot-dogs, potato chips, pizza, soda, etc. There are fast food restaurants on just about every corner of America. It is no wonder that each generation gets sicker and sicker.

The Everett Koop Surgeon General Report in 1988 stated that dietary excess or imbalances play a major cause of death in America. Quoting from Koopís study, it states the following. "Although the precise proportion attributable to diet is uncertain, these eight conditions accounted for nearly 1.5 million of the 2.1 million total deaths in 1987. Dietary excesses or imbalances also contribute to other problems such as high blood pressure, obesity, dental diseases, osteoporosis, and gastrointestinal diseases. Together, these diet-related conditions inflict a substantial burden of illness on Americans. Here are some of the statistics from Koopís Study:

bulletCoronary Heart Disease

Despite the recent sharp decline in the death rate from this condition, coronary heart disease still accounts for the largest number of deaths in the United States. More than 1.25 million heart attacks occur each year (two-thirds of them in men), and more than 500,000 people die as a result. In 1985, illness and deaths from coronary heart disease cost Americans an estimated $49 billion in direct health care expenditures and lost productivity.


Strokes occur in about 500,000 persons per year in the United States, resulting in nearly 150,000 deaths in 1987 and long-term disability for many individuals. Approximately 2 million living Americans suffer from stroke-related disabilities, at an estimated annual cost of more than $11 billion.

bulletHigh Blood Pressure

High blood pressure (hypertension) is a major risk factor for both heart disease and stroke. Almost 58 million people in the United States have hypertension, including 39 million who are under age 65. The occurrence of hypertension increases with age and is higher for black Americans (of which 38 percent are hypertensive) than for white Americans (29 percent).


More than 475,000 persons died of cancer in the United States in 1987, making it the second leading cause of death in this country. During the same period, more than 900,000 new cases of cancer occurred. The costs of cancer for 1985 have been estimated to be $22 billion for direct health care, $9 billion in lost productivity due to treatment., disability, and $41 billion in lost productivity due to premature mortality, for a total cost of $72 billion

bulletDiabetes Mellitus

Approximately 11 million Americans have diabetes, but almost half of them have not been diagnosed. In addition to the nearly 38,000 deaths in 1987 attributed directly to this condition, diabetes also contributes to an estimated 95,000 deaths per year from associated cardiovascular and kidney complications. In 1985, diabetes was estimated to cost $13.8 billion per year, or about 36 percent of total health care expenses.


Obesity affects approximately 34 million adults ages 20 to 74 years in the United States, with the highest rates observed among the poor and minority groups. Obesity is a risk factor for coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and possibly some types of cancer as well as other chronic diseases.


Approximately 15 to 20 million Americans are affected by osteoporosis, which contributes to some 1.3 million bone fractures per year in persons 45 years and older. One-third of women 65 years and older have vertebral fractures. On the basis of x-ray evidence, by age 90 one-third of women and one-sixth of men will have suffered hip fractures, leading to death in 12 to 20 percent of those cases and to long-term nursing care for many who survive. The total costs of osteoporosis to the U.S. economy were estimated to be $7 to $10 billion in 1983.

bulletDental Diseases

Dental cavities and periodontal disease continue to affect a large proportion of Americans and cause substantial pain, restriction of activity, and work loss. Although dental cavities among children, as well as some forms of adult periodontal disease, appear to be declining, the overall prevalence of these conditions imposes a substantial burden on Americans. The costs of dental care were estimated at $21.3 billion in 1985.

bulletDiverticular Diseases

Because most persons with diverticular disease do not have symptoms, the true prevalence of this condition is unknown. Frequency increases with age, and up to 70 percent of people between the ages of 40 and 70 may be affected. In 1980, diverticulosis was accountable for some 200,000 hospitalizations.

What is the spiritual reality of poor health?

This health crisis has great symbolic meaning to those that have eyes to see. They understand that it is nothing, but a reflection of a spiritual health crisis in America and the world. Physical or natural events are always a manifestation of some invisible spiritual principle (Rom. 1:19-20; see "Visions and Revelations," by DeVita Brown in Complimentary Issue, and "The Ark of the Covenant," by Lee Warren, January-February 1995 issues of the PLIM REPORT, for details).

Through various imbalances within the physical diet that cause many diseases, inefficient bodily operations, and death, Elohim is demonstrating to mankind that there are spiritual and psychological deficiencies in manís belief system will cause psychological maladies, such as depression, low self esteem, arrogance, price, jealousy, etc. Just because the people have been dumbed down regarding the nutritional needs of their bodies, this does not alter or change the ill heath and fatigue they experience for literally poisoning their bodies. In short, ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law.

Now the word "diet" is derived from a Greek word "diatia" which means "way of life." The food we eat is the way of life for the physical body. The natural health of the body is a reflection of spiritual health of the inner body or soul.

The Messiah said to His disciples that He was the "way of life" for the inner man or the soul. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (Jn. 14:6)."

Yahweh also revealed unto Moses and Israel that the words of the Holy Spirit are food for the inner man. Moses wrote: "Öthat man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of Yahweh (the LORD, Deu. 8:3)."

Now the Messiah spoke to Israel in many parables and said that he was the food that their souls needed to resurrect, just as the lambs, which represent Him (Jn. 1:29), had to be slain and eaten in Egypt for Israel to be delivered from Egyptian bondage. Likewise, He told Israel that He was the bread that came down from heaven that they had to eat in order to have eternal life (Jn. 6:35). He also told them that they had to eat of His flesh and drink in His blood (Jn. 6: 51). Now many in Israel that heard this parable interpreted it in a literal sense. Yahshua had to clarify their misunderstanding by stating that His words are life. "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life (Jn. 6:63)"

The great Master Yahshua the Messiah knew that the souls of mankind needed the proper spiritual food for them to be regenerated. The souls of mankind were spiritually sick and dead as the result of Adamís transgression and Eve believing Satanís lie. It is always lies and misinformation that keep the soul and mind sick. Thus, the true diet or Ďway of lifeí for the soul is adhering to the Messiahís inner voice for guidance throughout this earthly journey. (Rev. 3:20).
